Black Ops Cold War beta access explained

By pre-ordering any edition either digitally or through select retailers, you'll get early Black Ops Cold War beta access on the Thursday and Friday before the open beta kicks off over at the weekend - with PS4 early access available on the first weekend, and Xbox One and PC on the second.

If you don't pre-order, however, you can still play the Black Ops Cold War beta - you just have to wait for the open beta dates that follow.

What's featured in the Black Ops Cold War beta?

The Black Ops Cold War beta is focused on multiplayer, with confirmation of the following ahead of the pre-load arriving:

  • 'Traditional' 6v6 modes (the alpha featured Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, which are likely to return)
  • VIP Escort mode
  • 12v12 mode Combined Arms - a 'vehicle-inclusive twist on traditional Domination, set in larger maps compared to the game's traditional 6v6 play spaces'
  • New mode Fireteam: Dirty Bomb
  • Beta-only ranking and progression, with the ability to try out Create-a-Class and Scorestreaks

Additionally, there are two rewards for playing the beta. The 'Adler' character will be unlocked in Call of Duty Mobile for simply playing, while reaching progression level 10 will unlock an Epic SMG weapon blueprint on Black Ops Cold War's full launch.

Once the two weekends are over and done with, the next stop is the Black Ops Cold War release in November.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Zombies is unlike anything ever seen before. This new-age rendition is completely off the charts compared to its predecessors. And despite all that is new in this version, it will impress veterans of the Zombies mode with the upcoming DLCs.

Not that the mode isn't impressive by itself, but whenever a hint of nostalgia hits a new version, things tend to get spicy. That is exactly what is happening with the list of perks coming to Cold War Zombies.

Modern Warzone tweeted a possible perk lineup earlier this week.

CoD has its fair share of great perks over the years, and now a few favorites are making a comeback. Mule Kick, Tombstone, PHD Flopper, and Double Tap are the rumored ones. Mule Kick was first added way back in 2015, as a Perk-A-Cola that allows players to carry three weapons at the same time. The points required to purchase it was 4000 in the previous Black Ops games.

Double Tap is another helpful perk that allows players to deal more damage from their weapons. It basically releases two bullets at the same time for the damage kick.

PHd Flopper was first introduced in the map Ascension and returned later in other versions. It helps players reduce fall damage and create an explosion upon landing.

The return of these perks will definitely make Cold War Zombies a lot more interesting and definitive.

When will these perks release in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War?

While it is difficult to point out a date, some believe it will not come before February. This means Season 2 of Cold War might have new DLC maps for Zombies.

Furthermore, we think that these perks will release with the maps. Since it is four perks, one per DLC map is a probability. There are also rumors of a new ‘Ray Rifle', but there isn't much to go on to support this claim. Either way, it won't be the worst idea to modify the Ray Gun.
